The movement used when applying cranial sacral techniques is subtle, we know we can feel the beating of our heart in our ankles because the movement and fluid is transferred by our arteries. We also know that if we take a deep breath we can feel the expansion of our lungs underneath our ribs and sometimes if you pay attention you can feel the same extension through your legs. The cranial rhythm is driven by the expansion of the cranium during the filling or active phase and the retraction or passive phase, its the fluid dynamics of the cranial system which is necessary to ‘clean’ our brain.
There are many approaches to cranial sacral therapy, from a very light almost energetic touch where the practitioner is using fluid dynamics to move structure to the opposite end of the scale where the practitioner uses structural dynamics to move fluid. Gaelen works with both methods blending them as necessary to achieve results.
